Person: Professor Patty Cake ®, a.k.a. Dr. Erica Vernold Miller, founder and CEO of Professor Patty Cake Consulting, L.L.C. resides in Upstate New York with her husband, their 2 amazing sons, and their rescued Pit/Boxer puppy. In addition to her family, Dr. Miller loves the beach, chocolate ice cream, her kindle, rock music, and her newest obsession, running. Always one to push herself to grow mentally, emotionally and physically; she is currently training for yet another 5K!
Professor: Dr. Erica Vernold Miller is the former Inclusive Early Childhood, (IECE) and Inclusive Elementary Education (IEE) Program Director (2013-2016) at Cazenovia College and a Teacher Residency Director and Visiting Assistant Professor at New York University (NYU). Additionally, she previously served as an assistant professor of inclusive education, CAEP Accreditation/Student Teaching Seminar Coordinator, and advisor of the Women's Empowerment Group (WEG) at Cazenovia College. Before becoming a professor, she held numerous teaching and school leadership positions in California, North Carolina, and New York. She has experience serving as a special education teacher, an early childhood teacher, a school administrator, and an Executive Director of an educational nonprofit.
Her research primarily focuses on inclusive educational practices, child development, multicultural literacy, nontraditional family structures, social justice, resiliency theory, and intellectual downplaying behavior. She is credited with coining the term "intellectual downplaying" (the act of playing down one's intellectual ability), founding the Intellectual Downplaying Hub and conducting the first large-scale study researching the topic of intellectual downplaying.
Dr. Erica Vernold Miller truly enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience with others. She has published her research, presented at countless conferences, and conducted workshops for parents, preservice teachers, teachers, school administrators, and the general public on a wide variety of educational topics.
